Boris Buzančić is a Croatian actor and politician who was the 47th mayor of Zagreb from 1990 to 1993. A native of Bjelovar, Buzančić started acting very early on. He has appeared in numerous movies and TV shows. His specialty is playing powerful men, especially in drama films about WWII. However, one of his most memorable roles is the spiritual vice-mayor of Split City, Dotur Vice in the popular TV series Velo misto. Due to a twist of fate, Buzančić became actual mayor in 1990, following Croatia's first multi-party election, in which he supported the Croatian Democratic Union. He was elected mayor of Zagreb and held this post for two years, until he was elected to the Croatian Parliament in 1992. After 1995 he returned to the interim. Two of his roles - in the 1999 comedy Marshal Tito's Spirit and the 2002 television series The Promised Land - were inspired by the real-life characters of Tito and Tuđman. He passed away at the age of 85 after a long illness on October 9, 2014
