Cor de Groot is a Dutch pianist and composer. He was born in Amsterdam. He studied piano with Egbert Veen and Ulferts Schults, as well as composed and directed with Sem Dresden. In 1932, he graduated with the highest honors, playing a piano concert written by himself. After becoming a soloist with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, he won the fifth prize at the 1936 International Pianist Competition in Vienna. He has performed all over the world and recordings that exist exhibit a solid structural feel, a clear rhythmic attack and very precise dynamic shadows. He was on the jury of the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in 1956. In 1959, a neurological disorder developed in his right hand but he continued to play repertoire for his left hand.
