David Earl Nichols is an American pharmacist and chemist. Formerly Robert C. and Charlotte P. Anderson, Dean of the Faculty of Excellence in Pharmacy at Purdue University, Nichols has worked in the psychostimulant field since 1969. As a graduate student, he patented the method used to create optical isomers of inducing amphetamine hallucinations. His contributions include the synthesis and reporting of scale variants, LSZ, 6-APB, 2C-I-NBOMe and other NBOMe variants, and several other variants, as well as coined the term "entactogen". He is the founding president of the Heffter Research Institute, named after the German chemist and pharmacist Arthur Heffter, who first discovered that mescaline is an active ingredient in peyote cacti. In 2004, he was appointed Irwin H. The Faculty page of the Serotonin Club International was previously, and gave a speech in Portugal titled "35 Years of Crazy Research: A Long Strange Journey is Over."
