David Benjamin Eger is an American professional Champions Tour golfer. Eger was born in Fort Meade, Maryland. He attended the University of North Carolina, then East Tennessee State University. He went professional in 1978, but only won $ 31,014 in 58 PGA Tour events, with just one of the top 10. In 1982, he moved on to golf course manager and regained his amateur status. . He was the Tournament Executive Director of the PGA Tour from 1982 to 1992; USGA Rules and Competition Director 1992 to 1995; and as vice president of competition of the PGA Tour from 1995 to 1996. As golf course manager, Eger kept his skills intact by playing amateur, winning the US Mid-Amateur Championship. 1988 and North and South Amateur in 1991. He has also been a member of the Walker Cup three times and has been in the US Amateur final twice. Eger turned professional for the second time in 2001 .
