Steenkamp previously served as a live tour host for FashionTV in South Africa and appeared in TV commercials for the Toyota Land Cruiser, Clover "The One", Redds and Aldor Pin Pop. She was a celebrity on BBC Baking Made Easy's Lifestyle show in 2012 and on Tropika Treasure Island season 5 that aired on SABC 3 in February 2013. On Valentine's Day 2013, Steenkamp was shot dead by her boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius. He said that he believed Steenkamp was an intruder hiding in his bathroom. Pistorius was found guilty of bluff in the first trial. On December 3, 2015, the Supreme Court of Appeals of South Africa overturned the verdict and instead charged Pistorius with murder.
