Steve Albini is an American musician, record producer, sound engineer, and music journalist. He is a member of Big Black, Rapeman and Flour, and a member of Shellac. He is the founder, owner and chief engineer of Electric Audio, a Chicago-based studio complex. In 2018, Albini estimates that he has made several thousand albums in his career. He has worked with artists such as Nirvana, Pixies, Breeders and PJ Harvey. Albini is also known for her outspoken and controversial stance on the music industry, having repeatedly stated that she exploits artists' finances and their sonic consistency. Almost alone among famous producers and musicians, Albini refused to receive permanent royalties on the sale of albums, believing that the producer's job was to record music according to the wishes of the group and that it was contrary to the ethical to pay producers as if they had artistically contributed to an album.
