My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is an animated children's television series based on the fourth incarnation of Hasbro's My Little Pony toyline and media franchise. The show follows a studious anthropomorphic unicorn pony named Twilight Sparkle and her friends Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie, and dragon assistant, Spike, who travel on adventures and help others around Equestria while working out problems that arise in their own friendships. The series is animated in Flash and aired on The Hub from October 10, 2010, to October 12, 2019. Hasbro selected animator Lauren Faust as the creative director and executive producer for the show. Faust sought to challenge the nature of the My Little Pony line, creating more in-depth characters and adventurous settings; she left the series during season 2 due to hectic production schedules and lack of creative control.
