Ernest Charles Manning, a Canadian politician, was the eighth premier of Alberta from 1943 to 1968 for the Social Credit Party of Alberta. He has served longer than any other prime minister in the province's history and is the second longest serving prime minister in Canadian history. He was also the sole member of the Social Credit Party of Canada to sit in the Senate and, with the party removed from the House of Representatives in 1980, was the party's last representative in Congress when he retired. in the Senate in 1983 .
