Ibrahim Rugova
Ibrahim Rugova is a prominent Kosovo Albanian political leader, scholar and writer, served as President of the partially recognized Kosovo Republic, served from 1992 to 2000 and President of Kosovo from in 2002 until his death in 2006. He oversaw a struggle for independence, supported peace of resistance against Yugoslav rule and lobbied in favor of America and Europe, especially during the Kosovo war. Due to his role in the history of Kosovo, Rugova has been nicknamed "the father of the nation" and "Gandhi of the Balkans". He founded the political party of the Kosovo Democratic Federation in 1989. The LDK, which supports 90% of Kosovar's Albanians, supported Kosovo's independence through peaceful means. The party formed a shadow government that provides government and basic social services to the Albanian people in Kosovar, including education and health care, creating an efficient parallel state.
