Jeremy Halvard Prynne is an English poet associated with the British Poetic Renaissance. Prynne's early influences included Charles Olson and Donald Davie. His first book, Force of Circumstance and Other Poems, was published in 1962; Prynne excluded him from his rule. His poems bring together all the works he would like to keep until the time of publication, starting with Poems in the Kitchen. Extended and updated versions appeared in 1999, 2005 and 2015. Prynne was a key figure in the Cambridge Renaissance group of poets and a major contributor to The English Intelligencer. In addition to his poetry, Prynne has published a number of critical and scholarly prose. A copy of a 1971 lecture on Olson's Maximus poems at Simon Fraser University is widely distributed. His longer works include a monograph on Ferdinand de Saussure, the stars, the tiger, and the form of the word, and his self-published commentaries on the poems of Wordsworth and Shakespeare.
