Neil Elvis "Nicky" Winmar is a former Australian footballer, best known of his career for the St Kilda and Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football Confederation, as well as for the South Fremantle in the Football Confederation. Western Australia. Raised in Pingelly in Western Australia's Wheatbelt region, Winmar began his career with South Fremantle, making 58 appearances for the club before being put on preseason in 1987 by St Kilda. During a twelve-season career with St Kilda, Winmar won the fair and club's best award, the Trevor Barker Award, in 1989 and 1995, as well as twice for the Australian squad. He left St Kilda at the end of the 1998 season and was assembled by the Western Bulldogs, playing one more season at the AFL before retiring at the end of the 1999 season. After representing Western Australia in eight interstate matches, Winmar was named to the St Kilda Century Team in 2003 and inducted into the Western Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2009
