American academic administrator, researcher and former athlete who was a middle runner at the School University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2014 he became the 3rd president of the University of South Alabama. He competed in Penn relays and of Track and Field News multiple times. In 1975 he won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Mexico City for the 1500 meters, before he retired from running.
