William Shirley was a British colonial manager who served longest in the province of Massachusetts Bay and later as governor of the Bahamas. He is known for his role as the organizer of the Siege of Louisbourg of 1745 during the War of King George and his role in military affairs during the French and Indian Wars. He spent most of his years in the colonial government of North America defeating New France, but a lack of formal military training led to political troubles and ultimately the downfall of France. he.
