Edmund Lincoln Anderson is an American comedian and actor. For a generation of radio and television comedy, he was called "Rochester". Anderson debuted the show business as a teenager on a variety track. In the early 1930s, he turned to film and radio. In 1937, he began his most famous role as Rochester van Jones, commonly referred to simply as "Rochester," Jack Benny's servant, on the NBC radio show The Jack Benny Program. Anderson became the first African-American to make a regular role on a national radio show. When the series switched to CBS in 1950, Anderson continued to assume the role until the series ended in 1965. After the series ended, Anderson remained active in guest roles. on television and dub works in the animated series. He is also a horse racing enthusiast, owns several racehorses and works as a horse trainer at Hollywood Park Racecourse.
