Emir Kusturica is a Serbian filmmaker, actor and musician. He also has French nationality. He has been recognized for a number of international feature films, as well as for his city building projects. He has taken part in the Cannes Film Festival five times and won the Palme d'Or twice, as well as the award for best director for the time of the gypsies. Kusturica also won the Silver Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival for the Arizona Dream film and the Silver Lion award at the Venice Film Festival for Black Cats and White Cats. In addition, he was appointed Commander of the Order of French Art and Literature. Since the mid-2000s, Kusturica's main residence has been in Drvengrad, a town built for his movie Life Is a Miracle, in the Mokra Gora region of Serbia. He reconstructed parts of the historic village for the movie. He has been a member of the Republika Srpska Academy of Arts and Sciences since November 9, 2011.
