Gian Carlo Menotti is an Italian-American composer, opera artist, director and playwright famous for producing 25 operas. Although he often calls himself an American composer, he retains his Italian nationality. One of the most performed opera composers of the 20th century, his most successful works were written in the 1940s and 1950s. Heavily influenced by Giacomo Puccini and Modest Mussorgsky, Menotti continued. period.
