Jānis Balodis is a military general, commander in chief of the Latvian armed forces, minister of war and politician, one of the main figures in the Latvian War of Independence and the dictatorship of Kārlis Ulmanis. , when he is officially number two. in the regime are the Secretary of the War Department, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Vice President. At the start of World War I, he was slightly wounded in battles in East Prussia and received decorations. On February 20, 1915, while recovering from a hospital, he was captured by the German army and spent the remainder of the war in a POW camp in Silesia.
