Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou, known by the stage name Vangelis, is a Greek musician and composer of electronic, progressive, ambient, jazz and orchestral music. He is known for his Oscar-winning Chariots of Fire, as well as for composing the score for the films Blade Runner, Missing, Antarctica, The Bounty, 1492: Conquest of Paradise and Alexander, and his use of music. in the 1980 PBS documentary Cosmos: A Personal Voyage by Carl Sagan. Vangelis began her career working with several famous 1960s bands such as The Forminx and Aphrodite's Child, whose 666 album was later recognized as a classic of psychedelic progressive rock. During the 1970s, Vangelis composed several documentaries on animals, including L'Apocalypse des Animaux, La Fête sauvage and Opéra sauvage; The success of these scores made him the trend in mainstream music.
