Gregory Stanley Forbes is a longtime Weather Channel expert on extreme weather conditions with extensive research experience in the areas of convective storms and severe cyclones. Born and raised near Latrobe, Pa., Forbes received his B.S. degree in Meteorology from Pennsylvania State University. He studied tornadoes and severe thunderstorms at the University of Chicago, where he obtained an MS and Ph.D. There, Forbes studied renowned cyclone scientist Ted Fujita and his thesis was on the 1974 Super Epidemic, where he and Fujita conducted aerial and ground surveys. With this data, he confirmed in a 1981 article that the hook echo was an excellent clue on weather radars of the development of tornadoes. Forbes was the field director of the NIMROD project, the first measurement program to study damaging thunderstorms from eruptions and microscopic epidemics.

Severe weather expert for the Weather Channel. He was also the field manager for Project NIMROD, the world's first measuring program dedicated to studying the harmful effects of downbursts and microbursts in thunderstorms.
