In 2008, The Times ranked Dahl 16th on the list of "50 Greatest English Writers since 1945". However, he and his writings have been criticized for their anti-Semitism, racism, and deviations.

Among the many children's books written by this Welsh-born novelist, screenwriter, and fighter pilot are James and the Giant Peach, The BFG, and Matilda. Many of his best-selling stories, including The Witches, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Fantastic Mr. Fox, have been turned into feature pictures.
