John Archibald Wheeler is an American theoretical physicist. He was largely responsible for the revival of interest in general relativity in the United States after World War II. Wheeler also worked with Niels Bohr to explain the basics of nuclear fission. In collaboration with Gregory Breit, Wheeler developed the concept of the Breit - Wheeler process. He is best known for having used the term "black hole" to refer to objects whose gravity collapsed as expected at the beginning of the 20th century, for having coined the term "quantum foam", "neutron regulators", "deep holes" And "it's bits", and make assumptions about "the one-electron universe". Wheeler received his doctorate from Johns Hopkins University under Karl Herzfeld, and attended Breit and Bohr on a scholarship from the National Research Council. In 1939, he collaborated with Bohr to write a series of papers using the liquid-drop model to explain the mechanism of fission.

Princeton University scientist who worked with Neils Bohr and Albert Einstein on atomic theory and helped create the atomic weapon as part of the Manhattan Project. He is also credited with coining terms such as quantum foam and wormhole, as well as the phrase"it from bit".
