Alexander McLeish is a former Scottish professional football player and coach. Glasgow-born McLeish played as Aberdeen's center-back during their glorious 1980s, making nearly 500 league appearances and 77 caps for Scotland. McLeish began his managerial career with magic at Motherwell and Hibernian, before leading the Rangers to two championships and five trophies in five years. McLeish spent ten months as manager of the Scottish national team, with the team barely reaching the final round of the 2008 UEFA European Championship. He then resigned from his post in November 2007 to become manager of Birmingham City, then playing in the Premier League. Although Birmingham was relegated at the end of the season, McLeish brought them back to the Premier League in 2009. Birmingham went on to win the 2011 Football League Cup final, but was relegated from the Premier League at the end. of the 2010-11 season.
