Andrew Chan is an Australian who was convicted and executed in Indonesia for drug trafficking as a member of Bali Nine. In 2005, Chan was arrested at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar. According to the court testimony from the convicted drug mule, Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were co-leaders of the heroin smuggling operation between Indonesia and Australia. After the criminal trial on February 14, 2006, Chan was sentenced to death by the Denpasar District Court. After appealing his conviction, his appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court of Indonesia on May 10, 2011. His appeal for leniency was dismissed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo on the date of January 22, 2015. The execution took place on April 29, 2015.
