Diane Joyce Humetewa is a US District Judge in the US District Court for the County of Arizona and served as US Attorney for the County of Arizona, holding that position from December 2007 to August 2009. Confirmed in 2014 As the First Native American Woman and a registered tribal member as a Federal Judge, Humetewa is one of three Native Americans in history to hold that office. Humetewa is also a practice professor at Arizona State University's Sandra Day O'Connor School of Law. Humetewa served as legal advisor to the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and the Deputy Attorney General of the U.S. Department of Justice, as a member of the US Sentencing Commission, the Private Committee Native American interrogation and judge of the Court of Appeal for the Hopi Tribe, of which she is a registered member.
