George Edward Smith is an American guitarist. He was the lead guitarist of the Hall & Oates duo during the band's heyday from 1979 to 1985. Subsequently, he was musical director of the comedy show Saturday Night Live from 1985 to 1995 where he was the frontman of Saturday Night Band sings Inhabit. His own albums include In The World, Get A Little and Encens, Herbs and Oils. Smith was the lead guitarist for Moonalice from 2007 to 2009. Smith has performed and recorded with many artists including Hall & Oates, Tina Turner and David Bowie. He played guitar on Roger Waters' The Wall Live tour and was lead guitarist for Bob Dylan's touring band from 1988 to 1990. Smith was also musical director of Dylan's The 30 Anniversary Concert Celebration at Madison. Square Garden. October 16, 1992. His group provided entertainment at the 2012 and 2016 Republican National Conferences.
