George Herriman
George Joseph Herriman is an American animator best known for the Krazy Kat comic book. More influential than popularity, Krazy Kat has been admired by the artists. Gilbert Seldes's "The Krazy Kat That Walks By Itself" is the first example of an art critic taking a comic book seriously. Comic magazine first placed this series on its list of the best comic books of the 20th century. Herriman's work has had major influences on designers such as Will Eisner, Charles M. Schulz, Robert Crumb, Art Spiegelman, Bill Watterson and Chris Ware. Herriman was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Métis Creole to parents, and raised in Los Angeles. After graduating from high school in 1897, he worked in journalism as an illustrator and printer.
