Gerd Von Rundstedt
Karl Rudolf Gerd von Rundstedt was the German sheriff of the Nazi Wehrmacht during WWII. Born into a Prussian family with a long military tradition, Rundstedt joined the Prussian army in 1892. During World War I, he served primarily as a staff officer. During the mid-war period, he continued his military career, reaching the rank of colonel before retiring in 1938. He was summoned at the beginning of World War II as commander of the Cluster. South Army Group in the war to invade Poland. He commanded Army Group A during the Battle of France and ordered a pause during the Battle of Dunkirk. He was promoted to Marshal in 1940. During the invasion of the Soviet Union, he commanded the South Army Group, responsible for the largest siege in history, the Battle of Kiev. He was dismissed in December 1941 after allowing Rostov to withdraw, but was recalled in 1942 and appointed Commander-in-Chief in the West.
