John Franzese
John "Sonny" Franzese Sr. is an Italian-American thief, long-time member and henchman of the Colombo criminal family. Franzese's career in organized crime dates back to the 1930s and spanned more than eight decades. He served as the Colombo family's henchman from 1963 until he was sentenced to 50 years in prison for organizing a series of bank robberies across the country in 1967. He was pardoned in 1978, but was re-jailed at least six times for offenses that were pardoned over the following decades. He became the Colombo family's henchman again in 2005, until he was convicted of blackmail in 2011 and sentenced to eight years in prison. His son, John Franzese Jr, testified against him, becoming the first son of a New York bandit to turn state evidence and testify against his father. At the time of his release on June 23, 2017, at the age of 100, he was the oldest federal prisoner in the United States and the only eldest in federal custody.
