Marta Cunningham CBE, is a Euro-American soprano. Born in 1869 in Brazos County, Texas, United States, her parents Albert Baxter and Martha Minerva Tharp Cunningham, both of DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. Marta received her high school education at Notre Dame Cathedral in Baltimore. She then immigrated to Europe, where she trained in a classical style, making her debut as a soprano soloist at the coronation of King Edward VII in 1901. She then toured regularly in England, Ireland and the United States, until she embarked at the Claridges Hotel in London, from 1910 to 1912, for "musical matins". When World War I broke out, she lived in London, undertaking charities and the East End canteen. In 1919, during a visit to the local hospital, Cunningham asked the hunter if she had wounded soldiers being treated.
