Oliver Shewell Franks, Baron Franks is an English civil servant and philosopher described as "one of the founders of the post-war world". Franks participated in the British recovery after World War II. Awarded in 1946, he was British Ambassador to the United States of America from 1948 to 1952, during which time he strengthened relations between the two countries. He was denounced for life on May 10, 1962. Lord Franks is often called upon by the government to preside over important interrogations and he is best known for his reporting on the consequences of war. The Falklands finally vindicated Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her government accused of ignoring the red flags of an Argentine invasion.
