Scott Powell is an American musician and former founding member of Sha Na Na, debuted at Columbia University in 1969 as The Kingsmen. The group name was later changed to avoid confusion with another group of the same name. Powell performed with Sha Na Na at the Woodstock Festival in Japan and Europe. He is known for his role as Santini in the TV series Sha Na Na, which aired from 1977 to 1981. He sang many Elvis Presley songs on the show. He also participated in the movie Grease with Sha Na Na, the lead singer of the song Hound Dog. When Powell left the group in 1981, he returned to Columbia and took pre-medical courses while pursuing a successful career as an orthopedic surgeon.
