Susanna Moore is an American writer and teacher. Born in Pennsylvania but raised in Hawaii, Moore modeled and read screenplays in Los Angeles and New York City before starting a career in writing. Her first novel, My Old Sweetheart, published in 1982, was nominated for PEN Hemingway and won the First Fiction Award from the American Academy of Literature and Arts. She followed that with White Bones in 1989, and her third novel, Sleeping Beauty, in 1993. All three are set in Hawaii and describe relationships. Family dysfunction. Moore received a special critique for her fourth novel, In the Cut, which marked a difference from her previous works in both frame and content, involving a teacher. The New York School had an affair with a detective investigating the violent and corporal murders in his neighborhood. . It was adapted into a 2003 feature film of the same name by director Jane Campion.
