Tamara Faye Messner is an American Christian singer, evangelist, author, discussion host and television personality. Initially, she was noticed for her work with the PTL Club, a mission program that she co-founded with Jim Bakker in 1974. They organized their own series of puppet shows for performances. Messner also had a career as a recording artist. In 1978, she and Bakker built Heritage USA, a Christian theme park. Messner came to the attention of public opinion when Jim Bakker was indicted, convicted and jailed on various charges of fraud and conspiracy in 1989, leading to the dissolution of the PTL Club. She divorced Bakker in 1992 and married Roe Messner. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1996, since then she has suffered continuously for over a decade before she died of the disease in 2007
