Benny Golson ist ein US-amerikanischer Tenorsaxophonist, Komponist und Jazzkomponist Tenor Bebop / Hard Bop. Vor seiner Solokarriere war er vor allem für die Big Bands von Lionel Hampton und Dizzy Gillespie als Autor und nicht als Performer bekannt. Golson ist bekannt dafür, dass er 1959 zusammen mit dem Trompeter Art Farmer das Jazztet mitbegründete und co-regierte. Von den späten 1960er bis in die 1970er Jahre wurde Golson als Choreograf für Film und Fernsehen benötigt. und daher weniger als Künstler aktiv, aber er und Farmer reformierten 1982 das Jazztet. Neben "I Remember Clifford" sind viele Golson-Kompositionen zum Jazz-Standard geworden, darunter "Blues March", "Whisper Not" und "Killer Joe" .
