John Christian Watson, allgemein bekannt als Chris Watson, war ein australischer Politiker, der vom 27. April bis 18. August 1904 als dritter Premierminister Australiens im Amt war. Von 1901 bis 1907 war er der erste Bundesvorsitzende der australischen Labour Party und war das erste Mitglied der Partei, das als Premierminister diente. Watson wurde in Valparaíso als Sohn eines deutschen chilenischen Seemanns geboren. Er wuchs auf der Südinsel Neuseelands auf und nahm den Nachnamen seines Stiefvaters an, als seine in Irland geborene Mutter wieder heiratete. Er verließ die Schule in jungen Jahren und arbeitete in der Druckindustrie als Komponist. Watson zog 1886 nach Sydney und wurde in der örtlichen Arbeiterbewegung bekannt. Er half beim Aufbau der Labour Electoral League in New South Wales und leitete den Wahlkampf der Partei bei den allgemeinen Wahlen von 1891.
