John Christian Watson, algemeen bekend als Chris Watson, was een Australische politicus die van 27 april tot 18 augustus 1904 de derde premier van Australië was. Hij diende als de inaugurele federale leider van de Australian Labour Party van 1901 tot 1907 en was het eerste lid van de partij om als premier te dienen. Watson werd geboren in Valparaíso, de zoon van een Duitse Chileense zeeman. Hij groeide op op het Zuidereiland van Nieuw-Zeeland en nam de achternaam aan van zijn stiefvader toen zijn in Ierland geboren moeder hertrouwde. Hij verliet op jonge leeftijd de school en werkte als componist in de grafische industrie. Watson verhuisde in 1886 naar Sydney en werd prominent in de lokale arbeidersbeweging. Hij hielp bij de oprichting van de Labour Electoral League of New South Wales en leidde de campagne van de partij bij de algemene verkiezingen van 1891.
