James Newell Osterberg Jr., professionell bekannt als Iggy Pop, ist ein US-amerikanischer Musiker, Sänger, Texter, Musikproduzent und Schauspieler. Als "Godfather of Punk" bezeichnet, war er Sänger und Texter der einflussreichen Proto-Punk-Band The Stooges, die 1967 gegründet und seitdem mehrmals aufgelöst und wieder vereint wurde. Mit David Bowie verband ihn im Laufe seiner Karriere eine lange gemeinsame und persönliche Freundschaft, beginnend mit dem Stooges-Album Raw Power im Jahr 1973. Nachdem beide Musiker nach West-Berlin gezogen waren, um sich von ihrer jeweiligen Drogensucht zu entwöhnen, begann Pop sein Solo Karriere durch die Zusammenarbeit mit Bowie auf den 1977er Alben The Idiot und Lust for Life, wobei Pop normalerweise die Texte beisteuerte.
