Alger Joseph Arbor is a Canadian ice hockey player, coach and executive. He is third behind Joel Quenneville in manager games in National Hockey League history and fifth in wins, behind Scotty Bowman, Joel Quenneville, Ken Hitchcock and Barry Trotz. Under Arbor's leadership, the New York Islanders won four consecutive Stanley Cups from 1980 to 1983. Born in Sudbury, Ont., Arbor played amateur hockey as a defender for Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey Federation. He played his first professional game against the Detroit Red Wings in 1953. Announced by the Chicago Black Hawks in 1958, Arbor would help the team win the championship in 1961. Arbor played with the Toronto Maple Leafs for the next five years. There, win another cup. in 1962. He was St. Louis Blues selected in their 1967 expansion draft and played his last four seasons with the team. In his final year with the Blues, Arbor was hired mid-season to coach the team.
