Austan Dean Goolsbee is an American economist and writer. He is Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at the Booth Business School of the University of Chicago. Goolsbee previously served as chairman of the Economic Advisory Board, a member of the Barack Obama administration, and interim curator of WGN-TV in Chicago. Goolsbee has served on the three-member Economic Advisory Board since the inception of the Obama administration. He advised President Obama in the 2004 US Senate and served as Senior Economic Policy Advisor in the 2008 Obama Campaign. He took over in September 2010 as Chairman of the Council, replacing Christina Romer , who left to resume a teaching post at the University. from California to Berkeley. On June 6, 2011, he announced that he would be stepping down from his leadership role and returning to the University of Chicago.
