Lawrence Timothy "Buck" Shaw is an American football player and coach. He has served as the head coach of the University of Santa Clara, University of California, Berkeley, the San Francisco 49ers, United States Air Force Academy and the Philadelphia Eagles. He attended the University of Notre Dame, where he became a star player on Knute Rockne's undefeated first team. He started his coaching career with one year as a head coach in North Carolina and four years as a team coach in Nevada in Reno. In Santa Clara, he set an impressive 803; Its first two teams won consecutive Sugar Bowl victories over LSU. After serving wartime, his only team in California won 4–5–1 in 1945. In 1946, Shaw became the first San Francisco 49ers head coach at the previous All-American Football Conference. and continued until 1954; they joined the National Football League starting in 1950. After two seasons as the Air Force Academy's first college head coach, he returned to the NFL in 1958 with Philadelphia.
