Gad Tsobari is an Israel-born freestyle wrestler and a member of the Israel Olympic team in 1972. He placed 12th in his event and was seen as a likely threat for the medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Tsobari was the only survivor of six athletes living in apartment 3 at 31 Connollystraße, the second apartment occupied by Arab terrorists in the early morning of September. 5, 1972 during an event known as the Munich Massacre. Although he was initially taken hostage by the Black September terrorists, Tsobari was able to escape with the help of his injured trainer, Moshe Weinberg, who attacked the terrorists and took those gunshot wounds that are fatal in the process. As Tsobari and the other Israelis were parking their cars in a file, at the end of the stairs leading to the ground floor, a terrorist wearing a cloak at the base of the stairs, swung his weapon in the direction of Tsobari.
