He has appeared in more than 100 films and won several awards including one National Film Award, two Kerala State Film Awards, two Southern Filmfare Awards for Comedian and Best Actor. Best at the Cincinnati Film Festival held in Cincinnati, USA. Jayasurya has also appeared in several Tamil films. Jayasurya started his career as a parody artist and hosted several TV shows on Malayalam channels. He made his debut as a background actor in the 1999 film Pathram. His breakthrough was to play a silent role in Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan. During the 2000s, Jayasurya was known for his comic book roles in Swapnakkoodu, Pulival Kalyanam, Chat Bhatha Chanthu, Chocolate, and Gulumaal, and for his villains in Classmates, Arabikkatha, and Kangaroo.
