Christine Wilhelmine "Minna" Planer is a German actress and the first wife of composer Richard Wagner, with whom she has been married for 30 years, although for the past 10 years they have often lived apart. As a child, she had an illegitimate daughter with an officer of the Saxon Imperial army, whom she raised as her biological sister. After a turbulent trial, involving both sides' infidelity, she married Richard Wagner in 1836. During her early years, Minna was the main employee of the house, having a successful career. as a dramatic heroine who has garnered acclaim for her ability on stage and admirers for her beauty. She shared many prison breaks during Wagner's life, including a dangerous sea voyage to London, poverty in Paris and followed him across Europe after he joined the Dresden Rebellion of 1849, leading to his expulsion from Germany. After Wagner's affair with Mathilde Wesendonck in 1857, Minna lived mostly separately from him.
