Robert J. Sternberg is an American psychologist and psychologist. He is professor of human development at Cornell University. Before joining Cornell, Sternberg was president of the University of Wyoming. He is the dean and professor at Oklahoma State University, head of the arts and sciences department at Tufts University, and IBM psychology and education professor at Yale University. He is on the editorial board of many journals, including the American Psychologist. He was the former president of the American Psychological Association. Sternberg holds a BA from Yale University and a PhD from Stanford University, under the mentorship of Councilor Gordon Bower. He holds thirteen honorary doctorates from two North American universities, one in South America, one in Asia and nine European universities, and he also holds an honorary professor degree from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. He is an Emeritus Fellow of the Center for Psychometric Measurement at the University of Cambridge.
