Steven Arthur Pinker is a Canadian-American cognitive psychologist, linguist, and popular science author. He was a proponent of evolutionary psychology and computational theory of the mind. Pinker is Professor of Psychology in the Johnstone Family at Harvard University, and his academic expertise is visual perception and psychological linguistics. His test subjects included mental imagery, pattern recognition, visual attention, children's language development, frequent and unusual speech phenomena, psychic basics, word and grammar sutras, cooperation and psychological communication, including miscarriages, involvement, expressive understanding. He has written two technical books proposing a general theory of language acquisition and applying it to the learning of verbs in children.
