Edward James Martin Koppel is an English-American journalist best known as the host of Nightline, from the show's inception in 1980 until 2005. Before Nightline, he had 20 years of work. Radio reporter and news presenter for ABC. After becoming a Nightline host, he is considered one of the most serious interviewers on US television. Five years after its debut in 1980, the show had a nighttime audience of about 7.5 million. After leaving Nightline, Koppel worked as editor for Discovery Channel, news analyst for NPR and BBC World News America, and as a contributor to the Rock Center alongside Brian Williams. Koppel is currently a special contributor to CBS News Sunday Morning. His career as a diplomat and foreign reporter has earned him numerous awards, including 9 Foreign Press Clubs and 25 Emmy Awards.
