Wyatt Tee Walker is an African-American pastor, national civil rights leader, theologian and cultural historian. He was chief of staff to Martin Luther King Jr., and in 1958 he became one of the first members of the Southern Catholic Leadership Conference. He helped create a racial equality chapter of Congress in 1958. As CEO of SCLC from 1960 to 1964, Walker helped make the group famous across the country. Walker sits at the feet of his mentor, the Great Pastor, Dr. BG Crawley, who was the famous Baptist minister in Brooklyn, New York and a judge in New York State. Walker began as a pastor at the historic Gillfield Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia, where he joined the civil rights movement. For 37 years, Walker served as senior pastor at Canaan Baptist Church in Harlem, New York, where he also co-founded the Africa Religious Action Network to Combat Racism in South Africa, and is the president of Central Harlem Local Development Corporation.
