Boris Leven is an Oscar-winning Russian art director and production designer who has a 53-year career in Hollywood. Born in Moscow to Israeli families Levin and Zinaida Narkirier, Leven immigrated to the United States in 1927 and naturalized in 1938. After graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California, he studied Fine Arts. Design Institute in New York. Leven began his film career as a cartoonist at Paramount Pictures in 1933 and joined 20th Century Fox three years later. His first screen credit was the artistic director of Alexander's Ragtime Band, where he received his first of nine Oscar nominations. The designs that Leven has created over the years have ranged from practical to highly stylized. As for Giant, he built a secluded Victorian house in a large clearing that has become an iconic image in the film.
