Craig Joseph Charles is an English actor, presenter, comedian, author, poet and DJ. He is best known for playing Dave Lister in the sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf and Lloyd Mullaney in the opera Coronation Street. He featured the Robot Wars style gladiator game from 1998-2004 and narrated the Takeshi's Castle endurance comedy show. As a DJ he appeared on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio 2. Charles first appeared on television as a performance poet, leading to minor presenting roles. After finding fame in Red Dwarf, he appeared on national television regularly with celebrities appearing on various popular shows while continuing to host various shows. Since 2017, Charles has hosted The Gadget Show for Channel 5. He notably played prisoner Eugene Buffy in the ITV drama The Governor and starred in the British films Fated and Clubbing to Death. He has toured the UK extensively as a freelance actor.
