McMahon and Johnny Carson began bonding together in their first television series, the ABC game show Who Do You Trust ?, which ran from 1957 to 1962. McMahon then celebrated 30 years as Carson's assistant, broadcaster and second banana on NBC's The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson from 1962 to 1992. McMahon also hosted The original Star Search from 1983 to 1995, co-hosting the 'Bloopers & Practical Jokes' TV show with Dick Clark from 1982 to 1998, winning the American Family Publishers direct marketing agency award, hosted annually by Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon from 1973 to 2008 and advised the NBC character group to conduct network coverage of Macy's Thanksgiving Day parades in the 1970s and 80s
